Separate the occupation question from the immigration route

First identify whether the target occupation is regulated or non-regulated in Germany. Regulated occupations can require formal recognition or professional authorization. In some non-regulated occupations, recognition is not required simply to work, although proof that an academic degree is comparable to a German degree may still be relevant for certain residence routes.

Academic and vocational qualifications do not follow one identical process

For foreign university degrees, tools such as anabin or a ZAB Statement of Comparability can be relevant. Vocational qualifications are assessed against the relevant German reference occupation and competent authority.

A job offer is only one part of the analysis

An employment offer can be important, but it should be assessed together with the applicant’s qualifications, the occupation and the residence route. Some routes provide structured ways to continue recognition after entry, subject to their own conditions.

Prepare a precise CV, consistent education and professional documents, verifiable work history and coherent translations. Before paying for translations or assessments, confirm which authority and form of evaluation your intended route actually requires.
