Visit & Short Stay

Short-stay and visitor-related planning.

← Germany overview

Duration is an important starting point

German Federal Foreign Office guidance generally distinguishes Schengen visas for stays of up to 90 days in a 180-day period from national visas for longer stays. The purpose of travel is also relevant to choosing the correct visa.

Iranian nationals require a visa

The German Embassy in Tehran states that Iranian nationals require a visa to enter Germany. For longer stays, applicants habitually resident in Iran should review the appropriate national-visa route for the intended purpose.

If the itinerary covers more than one Schengen country

A Schengen application should be made according to the main destination. The country used for entry or departure does not by itself determine which mission is competent when a main destination can be identified.

Re-check the operational procedure when you apply

Appointment, document-submission and external-service arrangements can change. Before applying, check the current German Embassy Tehran page and Federal Foreign Office guidance.
